How to Get Rid of Termites in Three Chemical-Based Ways

Not every homeowner wants to think about how to get rid of termites using chemicals. In recent years chemical pest control has gotten a bad reputation. This is understandable because chemicals have the potential to harm both the environment and the inhabitants of a home as well. Even so, it may be worth your while to find out more about chemical-based options. Some termite problems may only be treated through methods that use chemicals.

Trenching

This is often a method employed by expert pest control specialists. The general idea of the procedure is that a trench that is a few inches deep is dug around the property. Depending on the extent of the infestation, holes may also be dug in some internal portions of a home. Poison is then poured into the trench. Not all regions allow this kind of pest extermination. This is because trenching could endanger the public where water sources are in the vicinity or where public drainage systems are in use.

Fumigating

One common answer to how to get rid of termites is fumigation. There are however different ways to go about this. One popular way involves tenting. A tent made of non permeable material can be set around a house after which toxic fumes are released into the exterior and interior portions of a property under treatment. The downside to this is that your home may not be habitable for a couple of days. Moreover, it is a labor intensive process that will require you to pack some things that shouldn’t be around when fumigation begins.

Baiting

This is a solution that may involve less chemical use. In this procedure, wood baits with toxins are buried near termite problem areas. Termites that feed on poisoned wood do not die immediately. They will instead bring the toxic substance back to the colony where other victims can be affected. The disadvantage to this approach is that it can take several months before a colony is eliminated.

Learning how to get rid of termites may be an unpleasant task. This is especially so for some people who don’t want to deal with chemicals. This however is simply something you have to find out more about. You can’t afford to sacrifice your property.
