3 Termite Extermination
Facts Homeowners Should Know
Some think they are exempted from having to
think about termite extermination. Termite attacks however can
strike when you least expect them.
When this happens, you could have a serious
problem in your hands. Before you even think about
extermination though, there are a couple of facts you should
know.
#1- Pre treatment is no guarantee of
prolonged protection.
Some homeowners rely on pre treated soil and
housing materials. Pre treatment is a good approach if you are
still building your home. Take note though that pre treated
materials are no guarantee that you will never ever get a
termite infestation. Most chemical solutions only last for
several years. In five years or so, the wood in your house
could become susceptible to wood eating insects.
#2- There are clues that will tell
you when to consider extermination.
From the outside, your house may not look
like it has a pest problem. Termites however operate from
within. If you do not pay attention to the small signs that
they leave behind, you may already have a big problem in your
hands before it starts to show on your house’s exterior.
You may not be able to always physically see
termites because they love to stay in the dark. They do however
leave mud tunnels leading to your home. They may also leave
sawdust tracks in and around your home. Another indication of
their presence is small holes in wood areas and paint giving
way to show small hollow areas. These are indications that
extermination should be part of your long term agenda.
#3- Do-it-yourself extermination is
possible but only with the right knowledge.
Some homeowners may be able to eliminate
termites on their own. This is a good strategy to help save on
extermination expenses. Professional help typically comes at a
steep price.
There are however some disadvantages to
handling a termite extermination plan yourself. In the first
place, exterminating these pests involves properly identifying
them. This in itself may already be a problem for you. There
are many different species of termites and many of them hide
behind wood and mud tunnels. Even if you are able to
successfully spot a termite, you may not know the full extent
of their activity in your home. You may not also know which
products are most effective against them.
Simply put, you should attempt to get rid of
termites yourself only if you have the time and energy to learn
how to do it properly. Extensive research and planning are
crucial to your success.
#4- Not all companies are reliable
or reputable.
Service providers are the answer to the
difficulties of extermination. Then again, you should know that
not all pest control companies are honest and reputable. Some
could charge very high fees or cheat you out of your money. If
you have to get a third party to help you out, make sure you
research on each of your prospects.
Termite extermination is not for everyone.
It is incorrect to believe though that you will never have to
consider this step. Every home is at risk of termite
infestation. This is why you need to know when and how to deal
with termites in case your home becomes the next victim.
